Riding in cars with dogs
Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 03:51PM Have you ever tried to drive with two dogs sitting on your lap? Yeah, probably not safe. Actually I can't, but they can sit on my lap when I'm parked. Let me explain further. They both love to take car rides; however, Merlin is only happy if he is sitting on my lap. If he isn't on my lap, he begins panting heavily and annoyingly until I let him crawl over. So, he's a happy camper, looking out the window, giving me the "it's time to pet me" look, and looking for people or other dogs to bark at. Then there's Scout, the smaller dog, who can be loud when needed or give me soft pitable woofs, as in, why does he get to sit on your lap and not me?
The other day I had to get out of the house with the dogs, and we drove to McD's. When we arrived at the order window, Merlin got off my lap and went to sit in the passenger's seat. On comes Scout on my lap. We parked to eat my lunch and Scout couldn't understand why she couldn't still sit on my lap. There they are both sitting practically on top of each other watching me eat lunch. Afterwards, Scout being a bit more sly than Merlin, slipped onto my lap and sat there contentedly looking out the window. When she tired of that view, she turned around to look out the other direction.
OK, now it was time to drive home. As soon as I started up the car, Merlin tried to get on my lap with Scout still sitting there. Since he's the old man and wouldn't take no for an answer, I had to put Scout in the passenger seat and allow Merlin to sit on my lap. Luckily the drive home wasn't too long because here was "little girl" next to me, trying very hard to see out the window (she's too short) and sort of whimpering about how unfair it is that she doesn't get to sit on my lap too.
It's a dilemma but what can a mother do?

I really love to go any where with my dog even sometimes in the office also. I think a dog can be one of the better option if you are feeling alone while driving.
